Sorry matey, I thought you meant how to remove the lid in the first place
In that case I think either:
A: Remove the lid like I did but do the grind on the bottom of the lip that way you'll still have a lip that will support the weight of the lid and screw a handle on to the top of the lid as below

B: Get a cheapo 57cm BBQ for parts, use the coal grill as the base for your charcoal basket, use the food grill as a food grill and using your favourite precision instrument you hammer the lip of the lid flat so it sits on your drum

You can probably get a complete 57cm kettle BBQ for £30 if you search around, compare that to £30 just for a weber 57cm food grill and it's money well spent
