Postby Millwell » 21 May 2014, 22:09

I need help making a fire basket for my uds . I can't get metal mesh.
I might buy this http://www.tesco.com/direct/tesco-kettl ... d=205-5792
And drill holes in the charcoal pan.
Would that work.

I bought a sheet of stainless steel expanding mesh off ebay think it was about £29 delivered bit pricey but its the only thing I had to pay for. I cant see why that won't work you might have to keep the legs on but cut short to make it stable.

I got some mesh at a metal recycling scrapyard. Wasn't pretty - but it didn't need to be.

Look in your yellow pages to see if there is one near you.

What Si said. I picked up a washing machine drum off ebay for under a tenner, drilled a bunch of 1" and 1/4" holes in the bottom, installed bolts as legs and it's good to go. I could fit enough coal in there to burn for days if I really wanted to
