Geordie
You seem to have come to a remedy that you feel happy with despite the funny, but useless advice given by most of us. If you read through the postings on both the related topics you will find some GOOD ADVICE.
On the subject of smoke from fires being carcinogenic, it's the type of material on fire that causes the problem dependant on the concentration and length of exposure. After 30 years of exposure it's a subject of interest to me, and your neighbours doctor needs to revisit medical school if they are saying that the minute risk of exposure that might be presenting to your neighbour has caused a medical problem. Don't worry about any harm caused, it has nothing to do with you or BBQing.

Came back tonight to an ambulance in the street. Unfortunately it was our neighbour on t'other side. Hope it's nothing serious!

All the joking aside, you are actually doing nothing wrong and are not causing her "illness" if she has one.
You can bbq in your garden as much as you like, its not like your having a bonfire everytime you bbq.
Seriously i'd not worry about what your causing to her health.
Maybe the way forward is to go to citizens advice and get as much info as you can then knock on her door and ask politely what she expects from you, if you have all the facts with you hopefully you can put an end to it all.

Good luck but don't let it stop you cooking.

I know a hitman if needed though

Actually I don't

We had environmental health come round to check our set up when we started up the business. He watched the chimney light and most of the process of getting the smoker going on my Excel, also my GMG which can kick out a fair amount of smoke on start-up. Not once did he mention health concerns for the neighbours on the other side of the fence.

As a side note, my sister is an environmental health officer with Birmingham council (I get some great stories) and as far as I know she has only ever had to act once over smoke and that was some fast food shop owner "smoking" his food in the garden with old wooden posts, tyres and any else flammable he could find.

Enjoy the bbq, summer is all too short.
