Wine

Postby Pecker » 03 Aug 2012, 15:46

I've done a quick dearch, and whilst I can find a thread on what beers people prefer with barbecues, I'm quite surprised to discover that I couldn't find one on people's wine preferences, despite many people at the beer thread chipping in that they prefer wine.

Wine (along with food, music, and cinema) is one of my great pleasures in life. So I thought I'd open a thread on the topic, if that's okay.

Tonight we're having full blown cheeseburgers, with 'the works', as they say.

The two wines I like with these are either a good quality US Zinfandel, or a red Palo Alto, which is what I'm having tonight.

You can get it from Sainsbury's,and it's just over £8, though they regularly have a good deal on it (2 for a tenner, or similar).

It's a Chilean wine, and a quite a bizarre blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Carmenere. Too spicey to havde with beef/steaks/burgers on their own, but delicious with burgers when you add cheese, relish, raw onions and mustard.

I never used to drink wine till about 10 yrs ago and still struggle, prefer reds or sweet white but my all time favorite is.................

Chilled (very cold) sparkling red Shiraz which is a full bodied red, robust fruits with a hint of liqorice about it. Jacobs creek 1st closely followed by Banrock Station. Go on try it you may just like it.......beware it aint no Rose' and contains a lot of alc. glass of this and i'm yours!

Expect to pay around 9-10 quid a bottle or there is the one below which is a bit pricey, but very nice

Chilled sparkling red Shiraz will go well or a chilled fruity Rose.

The same wines I like with everything else.

Piesporter, Sylvaner, Hock. Generally cheap, dirty, German whites. Yes, I do like Blue Nun and Liebfraumilch!

bubbles all the way! Tesco Premier Cru is excellent for the price.

S. African Pinotage or Californian Zinfandel on the red

Gewurztraminer or dry Riesling or dry Muscat on the whites [ good with spicy food]

Oh yes,
If its a big nourishing cheeseburger then I am going big, black stump durif from laithwaites, it is black as your hat, 15% of your earth alchohol, will make an inappropriate suggestion to your wife and wrestle you to the ground after the 2nd bottle,

Failing that then it is big shiraz territory, something like a penfolds bin 28 from australia, as subtle as being bludgeoned with a dark fruit flavoured brick

Wine is good, I rather like it.........
