Fuel in a WSM

Post by CAWKY1962 »

Hello everybody, does a 57cm WSM use more fuel than a 47cm version when doing a 10-12 hour smoke of the same size pork shoulder :?: Or would they both use the same and you can just get more meat and stuff on the grills of the bigger version. Never thought about this before and ordered the 57cm version because big ones look more impressive

Yes it will as it's got more bbq to heat up, but personally I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it does cause you problems you could get a boiler jacket to help insulate the WSM which would make it use less fuel.

It will always use more on a cook than the smaller one but in the long run it is cheaper than having 2 smaller ones when you realise you don't have enough capacity!! It's just buyers remorse it will pass in a few days ;)

On the up side, more meat to cook, bigger dining events, more friends to invite or elastic waisted trousers to cope ;)

I opted for the trousers

Thats a great idea about the cylinder jacket Ed, I work in a builders/plumbers merchant so I'll get one and give it a whirl  And besides the 57cm WSM will match the 57cm gold and platinum i have.
