A lot of recipes you find on American-based BBQ sites call for sea salt. Personally I just use sea salt, however I just happened across a UK site advertising Kosher salt so I thought I'd post the link.

I've never used this site, so no recommendation or anything, it's just the first time I've seen Kosher salt advertised in the UK.

I use kosher salt all the time unless the recipe calls for an easy and complete solution into liquid. Remember that regular grind salt from the supermarket has more saltiness than the same volume of kosher. Kosher is my salt of choice for any rubs, sprinkles, etc.

I use Maldon sea salt, which is pretty similar to Kosher salt. I never really use table salt for anything.

Its just large grained salt with no added iodine or anti-caking agents; maldon is better, not that it makes any difference in rubs. No need to ship it from America! I think when American recipes call for things like kosher salt or "good vanilla" they simply mean "not the usual crap, in this particular case".

Just whizz up Maldon Seasalt in a blender or grinder and hey presto ... Kosher Salt !!!

I've seen Kosher salt in my local Lidl before, so if needed, it might be worth checking there (not going to be large catering sized packs though!)
