Our new toy :-)

Post by Swindon_Ed »

So after months of waiting for our new BBQ to be built and shipped it's finally arrived. We decided to buy a Backwoods fatboy as for the price and size it was what suited us best.

I've been busy spending the last couple of days testing it out and i'm really impressed with how good the food comes out of this thing, i've only cooked a couple of racks of ribs so far. Looking forward to giving it a real test this weekend when i've got a load of briskets and butts to cook.

Looks really nice :)

Bit overkill for the two of us! But one day...when I have a garden big enough to invite folks over!

Ed - just been doing some reading up on your new toy - seems very nice indeed.

Interested in what options you went for & what length of cook are you getting with Big K lump?

I went for a standard unit with a cover & a heat diverter, the reason for this is that i can get things like a stand made in the UK for a lot less and also customised for my needs. Wheels are standard one you can buy and bolt in yourself for a lot less. Also there is a way to make a diy auto water system which i've got 90% of the parts and cost me £6 so far instead of the £500 additional option that it is from Backwoods.

I've only done one long burn with it so far but i found with the Big K charcoal i managed to get 24hrs cooking at 250f which i was really impressed with, seeing how on their site they say about an 8hr burn time off a full load. And this was done without using a forced draft system so i would expect it to run even longer when i get my stoker attached to it.

Hi Ed,

Im guessing it wasnt cheap :)

Cheers
