Hi from South Wales!!

Hi all, been lurking on the forums for a while now so thought it was about time I introduced myself.

My name's Alex and I currently live in Cardiff, South Wales(originally from Brighton, good old Sussex By The Sea). I've always loved a good Q but up until recently it was just UK style hot and fast. I've been unable to decide on what to get but I was at Grillstock on Saturday and Ian's wife convinced me a ProQ Excel was the way to go. Ordered it Tuesday and it arrived yesterday, along with a Maverick et732. Only problem is I currently live in a top floor flat with no garden, so until me and the woman move into our new house in a few weeks time, it's sat in the corner in it's box

Anyway, in the next few months I'll probably be hounding you all for advice as I go through my first cooks on the new ProQ......can't wait!!!

Welcome to the forum fella. I've had my pro Q's now for 4 years and still going strong. When you do fire it up, try and use resturant grade charcoal and not the stuff you get from B&Q.
What food do you want to cooking on it?

The easier question to answer would be what don't I want to cook on it

Plan is to start off easier, maybe some nice smoked sausages, chicken bits and then work my way up to ribs, pulled pork, brisket, beef ribs.....maybe the turkey for Christmas dinner!! There's so many things I want to try on it.

I've done pulled pork in the oven loads of times but obviously it'll be a totally different experience on the ProQ, can't wait now.

Regarding fuel, I know it seems to be a bit of a minefield and personal preference seems to win the day......but what do you use/recommend seeing as you have the same Q as me??

Welcome to the forum, although we've only just joined ourselves, we've had a Pro Q Frontier for a few years, and got an Excel just before Grillstock.

Our coal of choice is the restaurant grade stuff from Makro that comes in the blue bags. If we can't get to Makro (as it depends on a friend who has a card) then we'll settle for the Big K briquettes that you can find in Waitrose, I think. Big K restaurant grade is meant to be good, but we find their delivery charges are way too much!

Thanks for the info. How long do you find you can go on the Excel before having to top up fuel?
