Post by esselle »

A week from today me and mrs esselle will be on holiday in the Florida keys (providing british airways sort themselves out by then). I bring back a case load of rubs and spices and goodies every year we go but I am trying to learn from you guys so what would you all bring back?

I asked some Florida people I know, and the replies were that smoking stuff's not too common down there, apart from bringing back some Key Limes for Key Lime Pie, most suggestions were to eat a lot of seafood & drink loads.

Search for a BBQ shop before you go, there are soo many options but you are bound to find a few of the ones I suggest, Obie Cue Sweet Rub, Cimarron Doc's rib rub, The Slabs Bird and Bone, Plowboys, Bonesmokers, if you have room grab some blues hog original and red sauce! I would always suggest picking up some Lowrys seasoned salt from a walmart, works really well on Lamb.
hope this helps

Exactly what Toby said. The Cow Town rubs are also nice and Head Country is a good all rounder. Head Country sauce is also nice.

You can contact a number of BBQ stores online and they will ship to your hotel. Toby would recommend Hawgeye's I'm sure, the Spice Wine Ironworks and the Kansas City BBQ store are also really helpful from my experience.

If you can't find a BBQ store and can't be bothered with mail order, there's some good stuff to be had in Walmart. KC Masterpiece Honey Sauce is good, KC Masterpiece all purpose seasoning, good too, Sweet Baby Ray's and Bone Suckin' sauces are good stuff. These aren't in the same league as those mentioned earlier but they are still pretty tasty.

As Toby also said, pick up some Lawry's seasoned salt. Also get some bacon salt - it rocks :D
