Oil Drum Grill

Post by Smokey Toad »

Hi

I have ordered my 45 Gal Oil drum (Used once for fruit juice)

I am looking at making a grill with door and chimney. Ash tray and coal rack with a high fixed plate in the top for keeping warm and a main grill maybe with a hot plate. to one side.

I am thinking 2/3 body to 1/3 lid for access with a chimney out of one side.

Has any one got advice? Al, Scott.

Supplers for grills etc, and ideas on suitable vents.

Do I need to drill holes in the base for fat drainage?

Thanks People.

Tom

If I can get this right I will be looking to make a smoker as well.

When I did mine Tom I started out just wanting a grill, but changed my mind half way through and wanted a smoker so converted it. Are you having it upright or horizontal? I found a place on line that did grill racks and grease pans (but not that cheap). I used a sliding vent from an old kettle bbq for inlet and a stainless car exhaust for outlet. I have loads of pics that I can send you if you are going the horizontal route. Mine has gone to a new home now though :( to make way for CJ :D
Good Luck mate and post the progress pics.

My sentiments too, why spend £1000's on exotic cookers when a £50 UDS will do the same job, it's all down to the skill of the Pit Master
