A friend observed the other day, while watching me cook: "Ah, I see - burgers are what you use to stave off hunger until the real food is ready."

Not sure I agree, as I am quite partial to a burger, but I can see how he got that impression.

I didn't even know there were any Q compos in the the UK.

Welcome to our new world We never realised there were any too until last September - beforehand bbq to us meant lighter fuel, sausages, burgers and beer - pretty much the only thing we have kept from that is the beer now we prefer low and slow (although we still like to occassional grilling)

Now of course.......you are into GOOD beer to go with the good Q ? (I am speaking as a brewer who particularly favours very hoppy West Coast US style pale ales....)

Cool, I think we should come over and give your ales a try, see how they hold up against some of English ones (obviously an excuse for a holiday )

Here's a thought......I've got time to brew a special beer for the Rudgwick compo. I could knock something up and bring a couple of cases over for the competitors. How does that sound?

Price basically. They sell me 25Kg sacks of ready crushed Muntons Pale Malt at a decent price - and their hops are always fresh and cheap. If I'm in the area, it's much cheaper to just drop in and pick up a sack of malt than it is to mail order it or buy from a physical store. Fawcetts floor malted Maris Otter is my favourite Pale malt, but it's also more expensive and a 25Kg bag costs a bit to courier.

I also mail order more specialist malts and hops from various places - up to and including Australia for some really sweet Oz and Kiwi hops.
