To us old hands here this sort of post garners comic mirth but it is hardly fair to any new folk. We have debated the merits or otherwise of cheap chimney starters (new folk search fekety fek dance) so I accuse you sir of being irresponsible in this post, unless it is an genuine weber chimney starter for 3 quid then you are endangering lives for comic effect and that is just not cricket Sir.

I've used mine twice and survived, however the asda one my wife bought me earlier in the year lasted exactly one burn before the plastic handle fell off as I was tipping the coals out.

Maybe I should get a better quality back up...

Paid £7 for one of these earlier in the summer and it's absolutely fine after several starts. The design is hardly rocket science, so I won't subscribe to the Weber snobbery.

Yes, maybe the Weber will last longer, but at £3 a pop you'd have to burn through a lot of these to post a loss against the money it costs for the Yank burner.

I have had non weber chimney starters and will agree they don't work like the weber large or wee one does.

Did anyone see the wee starter someone made from (tiny you'll like this) ikea cutlery holder and some nuts and bolts?

I'm looking for one to just to start a few briquettes if a fire is dying.

I'm also looking for a cheaper alternative to the Weber chimney starter to take to a holiday home...(not mine unfortunately but they want me to replace the BBQ and equipment!).

The starters are in store (or were in store last week) at £4.20, reduced from £6.00

Tesco seem to have some decent BBQ items on sale in store at the min I picked up the master chef BBQ set complete with aluminium case for half price (down to £12.50) a new Master chef long handled BBQ baster for £2.50 and a sausage turner for £1.75 also pickup for my Dad a metal BBQ skewer rack and skewers for £4.00 all in pretty decent prices I think

Its not the fact that the Weber is more expensive, its the fact that the cheaper chimneys have failed at the most unfortunate times, burning people, hence Tinys Fekety Fek dance.

Others, perhaps, this one has been fine for me. Construction is solid and it has a heat shield for the wooden handle.
