Cast iron grate for 2014 Classic Joe

Post by GuyB »

Hi all, just bought myself a 2014 KJ with the 'divide and conquer' system. At the moment can't find anyone selling the cast iron searing grates. I guess my question is; do I want/need a cast iron grate? What are the best alternatives to the KJ one?

If you can't get the Joe one direct from their UK dealer, link below then the BGE one for a large will fit

Having used a cast grate on the OTP, its a great piece of kit. However it does rust but that's easily handled by a spray of oil. However this approach wont work on the kj as the oil will seep into the inner shell. So my question is how do you deal with the rust problem. Its something I am considering as well

My CI grate has never rusted, I soaked it in some oil before first use and then just keep it topped up with a brush of oil before cooking. The Weber CI grate I had was terrible for rusting, might just be a quality issue with them. Storage will probably have an impact, I keep mine in the Egg when not being used and wouldn't grill without it now
