Gas bbq buying advice

Post by Donaldissimo »

Hi,

I'm looking to spend up to £300 for my first gas bbq. What brands offer good value at this price point? I'm after something that can cater for 8 or so pretty easily. I'm not too worried about a griddle or separate burner - it's the grill I need. And maybe a rotisserie.

bbqworld.co.uk seems to have good deals on Beefeater but I don't know if they're any good.

Thanks for your help.

I've spent a decade on outback, but customer service & quality lacking these days.

Bought a weber spirit 3 burner last year end of season & wish I had done it earlier. Yes it's expensive & yes I'm lucky it only cost me £150 ex demo ie sitting in a garden centre, but the quality & finish really is second to none.

Over the decade, have spent more than the purchase cost of the weber as all have rusted out, this seems to be much much better quality & great customer services.

My advice:

1# buy something which is 100% stainless steel. Including and especially the burners.

2# buy something for which spares are readily available.

You may have to spend more than 300 - but you will save in the long run. Particularly with the british climate.

Add to that a known brand and avoid celebrity endorsed products. Find one where you can have the middle burners off and the end ones on and really good burner control rather than just on and off.
Spend some money and take a drive out to the largest garden centre/bbq shop in your area and check them out in person, don't just go off what online reviews say. Then you have a bargaining chip to maybe haggle down the price once you have made your choice.

Hi
My outback hunter lasted 8 years uncovered in the garden in all weathers, have bought an outback spirit 3 burner from homebase when they had one of their 20% off and for £200 I think it is an absolute bargain. Very turn off and onable, get great bar marks on steaks and have used it for pork shoulders and with 1 burner on min it holds 110 c perfect.

I am sure the Weber stuff is top notch but your budget will bust to get a decent sized affair.

Echo the comments of previous posters if you recognise a chefs name, steer well clear.......

Happy hunting
