Phone Apps/Computer Apps

Post by MrJaba »

Hi Guys,

BIt of an odd question, but as a bit of fun/practice I was thinking of building an iPhone app, and I thought why not combine it with my newfound love of BBQ! I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about what would go into such an app.. perhaps a cook timer on all your meats? Recipes etc? I spotted recently Racks of Ruin on his Facebook page had created something like a cook database which looked pretty cool. Anyone think this would be useful?

Suggestions gladly received!

There are plenty of cook timers already out there. One thing I do use my Iphone for is keeping notes on my cook - ie what time I put something on its temp at certain points of the cook and my thoughts on the end result. I just use the notes section but it would be useful to have a better organised cook log.

Hi
Could you do an android version aswell if you have the time, I have no idea how to even start making an app so hats off to you.

Helpful for things for me would be,

Weights to cooking times (rough ideas)
Internal temps when cooked
What woods go with what meats

I know theres a wood chart on here but if im out and come across some wood then a chart on an app on my phone would be easier to use than trying to get internet signal.

Regards

a variation on the cook timer idea (or an addition to a cook timer) is maybe something that allows you to set alarms within a timer.

e.g I know that pork butt may take me say 12 hours to cook but I'd like to be prompted x minutes in the cook to check on it then y minutes after that for another check

Hi,

This may give you an idea. I created a BBQ cooking log on the iPhone using Bento database.

Hehe, yeah I'd spotted you did this on Facebook :) Is there anything that it doesn't give you? Features that you want/need?

Have a look for 'The Pit Pal' on Google Play ;)

Not sure if it's available on the apple OS.

I use iGrill, so a way to auto log and track temps would be cool. The pit pal app on android works with the Guru wifi.

As mentioned earlier, what I personally would find most usefull would be something showing the target temperatures but in both F and C, also including minimum recommended safe internal temp (protect yourself with a "as recommended by [appropriate government agency] correctas of [MM/YY]" statement)

I'd also like to see it split for type of result, e.g.

Pork Shoulder
Minimum safe temp Xf / Xc
Sliced Xf /Xc
Pulled Xf / Xc

Good luck buddy, someone did a list on here not too long ago too
:D
