Just done my first beer can chicken
Just done my first beer can chicken
And it was lovely - I'll be doing that again. Cheap Sainsbury's beer. Cheap pre made rub from the supermarket to make it easy. Chicken from the butchers. Two chunks of Applewood. WSM 47cm. I recon for a party I could comfortably do around 4 chickens.
Really juicy, nice hint of smoke - might take a touch more but I don't want to overdo it.
The temp did drop off a little over an hour in - I suspect not enough properly lot charcoal. I'll try a couple of empty runs to work it out. I can always close off the vents to save charcoal at the end.
Now, what to try next...
Paul.

I am not sure my arteries would handle that! Looks tasty though. Egg may get a little overdone as a filling, but maybe a little black pud as a breakfast roll...

That's the beauty of cooking....being able to adapt a recipe to tailor personal tastes/needs etc...
Another variance of Beer Can Chicken (or any type of meat) I've used in the past is injecting the bird with a marinade using a meat syringe. These can be purchased relatively cheaply and can add a whole new dimension to flavours etc.

If you want to go down the breakfast route you need to see http://www.fullenglishfatty.co.uk
I can assure you the egg doesn't get overdone.

Just out of interest, what is the incidence of heart disease among members of this forum?

Paul, everything is ok in moderation, if you made one for a party I'm sure it will get you family and friends talking. What’s the harm in a slice? As for the health and fitness of all the members, if you come along to a comp and have a chat. I'm sure you will agree that most of us resemble
spring chickens
.

Spring chickens for sure
Although some of our springs have gone a bit rusty & sluggish over the years (mine especially)
