XL BGE First Cook

Post by JEC »

Here's the pics from my first cook, a 325 chicken thigh cook to help cure the gasket

Nice and white, doesn't look like this inside any more :)

Only a few tiny bits fell through, impressed with BGE Lump

Didn't use much lump at all in 1.5 hours

It still amazes me how little charcoal these things use. Have you found a good mail order place for the lump or do you have a local store?

Chicken looks good - we did legs last night - so cheap & really tasty.

Thanks, had a foil tray in there to catch the worst of the fat, not too worried about general spitting as ceramics grills self clean if you get the temperature up.

Not got a Macro or CostCo that near me - live out in the sticks so rely on mail order - when I can get to one I will stock up on this.

Used these guys for the last lot: http://barbequick.net/store/index.php?m ... ucts_id=88

Half way through the first bag & it is good stuff - large chunks & very little ash. Had some good temperatures out of it too.

If you need mail order charcoal try the below, loads of people on here rate them highly

Luckily for me I live 4 miles from a local charcoal producer who I get mine from, picked up 3 12kg bags of oak and ash lumpwood, really good stuff with not many small bits or dust.
