Hi all, I too am looking for a large charcoal grill to replace my ageing (and rusty) Kingsford Premium Console grill. I got this from costco many years ago and would buy another if I could find one..

Is it just me? cant seem to find onion powder or celery salt in the supermarket. does anyone buy spices etc in bulk (where) or just the usual herbs and spices section at tesco etc.?

Hi there from Hutton....

also rate Olivers as reasonable and know whats's what. I am also picking up some beef ribs this weekend from the butchers at Calcott Hall farm shop on the Ongar road just outside brentwood. Their chicken and beef is superb.

Update on results...

I stopped smoking after 11 hours, and left for an hour in foil.
Pulled the pork, falling apart in some places (underside) and tender but not quite ready to pull in others. So a good but not great first attempt.

I suspect that it needed another couple of hours which I did not ...

I email BigK and they said

"It seems that the reason for the heavy smoke was that the briquettes somehow came into contact with damp whilst in the distribution chain, which unfortunately is beyond our control"

maybe the bags had been left on a pallet in the rain at some point?? (Wickes)

not new to BBQ but this season I am getting a ton of acrid smoke from my chinmey starter (yesterday had the neighbours round accusing me of having a bonfire....) I mean pure white/dark grey cant see you hand in front of your face smoke :shock:

Its a Big K bag of briquettes.

I think you are right... when I put the coals in the temp rocketed up to about 140 degrees c, I closed the vents to throttle back. Then an hour later the temp had dropped to about 50 degrees c, and required more coals....all good fun.. :D

Got the first chance to use my new wsm today with ribs.

I think the briquettes were slighty damp cos boy was there smoke from the chimney stater!!

Once i got the hang of the vents i manged to keep the temp in the zone for a good few hours then needed to top up with a little extra charcoal.
