Cooked ribs on it yesterday & no smell at all. I guess the lower temp is the key. At higher temps, it cooks more & releases more oil, which causes the smell. I had nothing but a few drips come out of the fillets.

The fish being uber fresh probably helped as well

Maybe true. 70 is very low. Supermarket stuff is never that fresh. Some positively stink.

Frozen fish is the only fish I buy from supermarkets

I remember once approaching the fish section at Morrisons looking for some Skate, and smelling the ammonia from several feet away!!

It's a shame as it puts people off fish. Freshly caught fish tastes nothing like the stuff that's been hanging around for several days. Fresh mackerel for example is really meaty and doesn't taste 'fishy' at all. Really delicious

Exactly, about the point it smells 'fishy' it's probably rank. I bet they were heaven! I have a cold smoker I want to get going at some point. Really love smoked and peppered mackerel . Mmmm.

If you want freshly caught mackerel, get yourself down to Plymouth as we currently have millions of them coming right into the Sound. You can catch dozens of them!
