Does your rope seal end up hard?

Postby Vic. » 03 Apr 2011, 14:04

I've seasoned my smoker a few times, cooked on it once, seasoned it another time to get rid of the excess seasoning and all the rope seal has went as hard as stone and stuck to the cooker instead of the door it was sealed on. Anyone else experience this? what's the best way to fix this?

Vic, I wouldn't know just yet.

What kind of rope seal was it? I have not got round to firing mine up yet so I will let you know once it has been used.

Got some new stove rope and adhesive today, lady says the other stuff I was sold was probably for an oil or gas stove and that's why it caked hard.....Some peopple will sell you anything ..... She's guaranteed her stuff will work at those temps, if not I'll have to take your advice Doc and get some of that stuff in the states.....

got the new rope and glue applied. Seems to be holding firm and hasn't hardened to the mating panel.
