Feel free to ask any questions, one of the experts will certainly respond, don't be afraid to ask anything, we were all beginners at some point.

Possible we could also split a builders bag (given the prices) in the future?

Cheers.

A builders bag of wood? How much BBQ do you plan on cooking!? I don't think I'll have storage space for that amount unfortunately. But really one large net bag will last for ages :)

Hmm...you'll probably do a bit more cooking than me so I'll take your word for it! Did you pick up the £8.50 net bag - approx around 8kgs?

I would say above, since that's where your food is. Plus the drip thing making it yucky.

Didn't see the no nonsense stuff...I'll take a look as I'll probably need to paint mine again (not essential, just the ol OCD kicking in). Wouldn't mind it gloss though.
Aye, I'd say you'd need at least two cans.

Turns out it was 400ml. My expanding foam was 750ml. Just got another can about 5mins ago!

Looks like most high heat paint (including Hammerite) is matt black...wonder what the WSM's et al use for that glossy black? Possible I could paint over the existing high heat paint...dunno..I'll look into that in the future.
I know they're called UDS's for a reason...but it's tempting to turn them into real lookers :P

One man's meat is another man's poison :)

I've spotted that on the web...huge applause for the ingenuity and effort that's gone into that.

It's pretty addictive isn't it?!

Couple more (small) pic updates.
Sourced some screws to lift the washing machine drum off the UDS floor (for the ash to escape into).
Best screws for the job where M6 x 90mm stainless steel. They don't really need to be any larger (the wash drum isn't that heavy) and the M6 size is a bit cheaper than the larger sizes (contemplated M10 at one stage).

Fortunately there were three holes at the bottom of the drum (would've been connected to another part in the washing machine) which were a perfect fit for those screws. Three is enough to balance the drum from the ground.

90mm size gives me enough room to secure the bolts with nuts either size of the holes in the drum (washers not required due to the holes already having them built in) and still having approx 3" height from the ground. You can adjust the tightness of the nuts/bolts so the drum is level (just count the threads at the top of the bolt).

As I mentioned above, I may add an ash catcher into the mix (using the same bolts but securing them through holes drilled into the metal pan). Not a real necessity however: yetidave - do you just hoist the drum upside down to get rid of the ash at the bottom periodically?

Also on the look out for handles (and possible a couple of wheels, but these are add on items I'll add as and when. The availability of those metal/wooden BBQ handles is pretty low.

Pics:

These are the bolts (£2-£3 from screwfix):

The hole saw and arbour (used with a SDS but probably not necessary) - these pair were absolute workhorses - probably drilled 50 odd holes (oil drum and washing machine drum) before it gave up the ghost (actually, just the drill bit snapped - possibly more life left in that hole saw). These were from tool station.

I've been using mine for ages and I've not even emptied the ash yet... Don't judge me! :?

My plan though was to get a shovel and just get as much out as I could when it came to be time to clean it
