Any disadvantage to the snake method?

Postby AndyHull » 31 Mar 2014, 11:18

Hi guys,
I built myself a ring out of aluminium chequer plate that goes inside the kettle on the coal grate and leaves enough room all the way round the outside of it to pour/stack the briquets (Big K) with a segregation plate to stop it burning from both ends. (hope you can picture it, it's a little like the smokers coal ring without the holes)

Using this method i can very easily get a 250f, 16 hour burn at least without having to add more coals.
This seems a little too good to be true, so i wonder if there is a down side to this that im missing, losing flavour or something else?

If not then i'm a happy happy man.

Many thanks

Andy

Nope it's fine, you are using the minion method just controlling the direction of the burn.

Thats good to hear, thought it was too good to be true!
I have also found that if i stack the coals that the temp doesnt move at all.
I'll see if i can get a pic up by useing tapatalk on the Ipad.

Thanks for the responces guys.
