Tiny, I have a theory that luck, like weight has to be balanced. I mean that Mother Earth only has so much to go around so when someone loses weight someone else (me  ) has to put it on. Likewise when someone else has bad luck someone has to have good luck. Based on your story I did the Lotto last night and lost. This has thrown my carefully worked out theory out of the window which makes me just plain fat :(  and not the victim of Mother Natures trade offs. ;)
But did the beef taste good?

Keith,
Final twist in the demonic ribs tail, put them in the oven in foil with a mix of beef broth, a smoked jalepeno, green garlic and 500ml of fullfat coke. intention had been to reduce this down to a sticky glaze.

Mrs Tiny was on watch duty and reduced it to a black burnt residue on the bottom of the roasting pan. Fished the ribs out, sahara style in that they were bone dry, and left to rest.

Incredibly after all the drama they had a good flavour profile and were moist, didn't quite pull but shredded into very acceptable goodness.

No bbq today as I have the joy of a minibus trip to northants for a blind cricket match, hoping its less stressful than yesterdays debacle!

Cheers Tiny
PS sorry for your weight gain, I am 147lbs lighter than I was 3 years ago :) hope you haven't copped for it all!

sounds like you had hard weekend food wise. ive had a few disasters too. been trying out some new seasonings on beef mince. im under seasoning at the moment. id never used smoked paprika before so wasnt sure how much to use. what i could taste was really nice though.

did some nice lamb burgers yesturday with fresh mint and other stuff thrown in but again still under seasoned! i'll get there i guess.

Tiny i bought four bags of charcoal from bookers back in april for my sons christening. and its lasted till now and its been really good stuff apart from this last bag i had. it was spitting and crackling, and didnt seem to get very hot. i used my chimney starter for the first time this weekend all the coals lit, glowed red and went ashy but there just wasnt the heat there for searing the steaks or burgers. i guess one bad bag out of four isnt bad. there was 1 charcoal log in it though. ive saved that for a low and slow thats coming that i keep putting off.

i think with the spitting charcoal im guessing its the water thats left in the wood exploding under extreem heat. maybe a sign of crap charcoal?

food shopping today so just normal food for me today. gotta be domestic today  got to put up a new shower, some blinds in the kitchen, treat the new gate i have and all the decking ive got ready to put down AND lay a few bricks! urgh!!! I have a cold bottle of cider in the fridge to help out if things get boring lol

Food was disappointing, overcooked and often dry but there was plenty of this: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag8 ... 72433c.jpg

nothing matters, not even the state of food, when you have alcohol. Apart from the food, was the holiday good? doubt i'll get a holiday this year (the bad parts of being self employed) got a rock festival in two weeks that should be about it.

It was great, did all the tours. Valley of the kings, all the tombs, temples and stuff. Plus it was bally hot, hit 50c on a couple of days.

Backyard smoker,
my dear old chap, the chances of you sparking up the new gear adter a ciderthon are somewhat unlikely are they not?

Perhaps modest grilling and the hair of the dog?

Cheers
