Anyone been to Hoxton's Red Dog Saloon? Looks pretty damn good.

When we met Jay Rayner @ the Feastival in the summer he wasn't very impressed with it, from where you're based in the country I'd suggest going down the Brighton and visiting the worlds end pub. Joker smoker from the forum serves bbq food there and got a great review from Jay Rayner. Look up Bbq shack on Google and you'll see his menu online.

I've been meaning to try Joker's place for a while, and will be heading that way early in the new year but I was scouting around for BBQ resturants in London as i'm heading up there in the next couple of weeks, fancied trying it or maybe even Bodean's.Swindon_Ed wrote:When we met Jay Rayner @ the Feastival in the summer he wasn't very impressed with it, from where you're based in the country I'd suggest going down the Brighton and visiting the worlds end pub. I don't know if you are aware of the area, but Hoxton is on the Islington - Hackney borders. From the menu it looks as if they are certainly Islington prices.
Doubtless we will have to visit the MiL soon, food taster is an akney (phonetic spelling) girl so may pop in for a look if time permits and the wallet hasn't been depleted.
However if Mr Rayner doesn't approve I'd save my petrol & BBQ tokens and head for John's BBQ shack. At least you can be sure of the quality there, and although you may get funny looks from some of the locals, looks is all they are going to throw your way

Depending on when you are going to London and what type of meal you're looking for, i'd suggest checking out eat street up at Kings Cross if you're there around lunch time Wednesday to Friday as Anna Maes do pulled pork and or you've got the ribman if you're looking for bbq stuff, i've also been hearing about big apple hotdogs who sound like they're worth checking out.
All of these guys take it in turns and there are other traders as well so you might want to follow @eatstreet on twitter as you get upto date info on who there each day, also look out for the traders on there own sites as they do also trade from different locations around London.
I've not had a chance to try them out yet but i've only heard good things, still trying to arrange a Friday morning London meeting to give me a chance to try it, so would be interested to hear your views on them if you get the chance to visit them.

Thanks for the info Ed, sounds really interesting and will check that out.
My Mrs just informed me that she is treating me tomorrow night to this http://www.londondesignguide.com/2011/1 ... t-dalston/ which features the big apple hogdogs. Can't wait.

Re: Red Dog Saloon
I popped in to the Red Dog Saloon last night - quite a good selection of dishes, but all a bit over-sauced for my liking which was quite spicy - don't get me wrong, i'm a bit of a chili head when the mood takes me, but it was to the extent where it covered the taste of the meat. For what it was - a hoxton "trendy" - it wasn't bad, and i'm sure the majority of customers are after what they serve - i guess i'm a bit spoiled being from Bton
Also, my big gripe - we ordered the "Carnivore Platter" and got one beef rib between two of us
(our carnivore platter for 2)
