What the hell have I got here?

I went to the butchers today to collect the pork shoulder I'd asked for.

After a bit of a faff, and having to use the internet to help get the butcher to understand what I wanted I left with something that looked remotely like the pork butts I'd seen online.

Here it is in full

And this is where I'm getting confused, it is almost like pork chops here

But hey ho, it cost me £15 so mustn't let it go to waste...

So the question is, what the hell have I got here? The slab on the meat is 4lbs of butt, I know that from my amazing powers of deduction. My butchery skills were put to the test on the right hand side piece of meat though, trimming it away from back bone and ribs.

Should the other bit of meat be cooked any different?

I'm guessing its a full shoulder cut into the picnic and the butt.

Were there any other bones in it?

There weren't any other bones in it.

Looking at that guide, and trying to visualise the joint before my butchering I think you could be right. There just wasn't the bone for the leg - that was nowhere to be seen.

Do I cook my hunk of picnic the same as the butt then?

That would be my approach.

Looks like you have got a neck end extended along the loin, this is what i normally order for the comps.

We will just have to see how it comes out, eh!

I shall update the thread during the cook...
