Hi guys, my Jim Bowie gmg turned up on Saturday and I'm now experimenting! I really need a good, budget machine for my surplus etc, what's the consensus out there re vacuum packing? Thanks in advance.

Yep. Same here. Great little model and has seen some heavy use with no complaints.

I recently went for this one:

Not had it too long and it's a cracker, the only thing is that sometimes the foam sealing strips comes away which means it doesn't vacuum the bag, but then you just slide it back in to place and it's fine again.

Only thing it that the rolls are expensive, it's about £1 a metre

Keep an eye on the JML website, I don't know how good their sealer is but they often have a 2 4 1 on the rolls which are standard design. My Foodsaver machine is finally on its last legs after nigh on 8 years :(

Thanks for this Philip, ordered one after you posted and used it for the first time at the weekend. Dont know how I have survived without one. Although the smoked butter was a bit soft and got squished (a lot)
