Where are people sourcing this from these days? Big K? Are you going via the website or are there deals to be had if ordering multiple bags?

Hey Robin, there are deals to be had if ordering multiple bags and stuff like that. I think most people are ordering directly, but if you PM me your email address i can send you some more info on the discounts.

I'm lucky and get mine from a local guy called Outdoor Gourmet in Devon at £15 per 15 kilo bag (same price as Co-op offer charcoal this week) great stuff. I cooked with it Saturday night and when I stripped the Pro-Q on Sunday, the big chunk in there was still on the go. Good burn times and clean fire.

He does mail order I think.

I have just finished my last bag of this and was very pleased with it, does anyone know where they import their wood from ? I'm trying to be a bit more eco friendly and understanding where the lumpwood comes from would help me decide if I use Big K again or go back to UK produced form managed woodland etc

I know that their BCH12 charcoal is made from some kind of weed that is over growing Cuba, and turning it into charcoal, helps people in Cuba reclaim farm land.

The ACH15 charcoal is made and imported from South Africa and is made from the wattle tree which is farmed for other uses.

All of their sources are FSC compliant and approved as is Big K.

Have you tried te BCH15? Seems very uniform.

The BCH15 stuff is very uniform but a little thin, so it's best for grilling with than smoking with. For smoking the ACH15 is my favourite.

What if you were to pack it in vertically in the basket - too solid perhaps?

I'm using booker blue bags at the moment - get about two cooks out of them (not done a 16 hr brisket yet though)
