Hi all

Blazing sun 2day so thought I'd check out the bairns.

Have never over wintered my kit outside before and read recently about mould build up particularly with wsm so figured I best go check.

Lil Henry was fortunate in being kept in the shed and is in fine fettle, checking Bert he seems fine too but poor old Kelly does seem to have suffered slightly.

Not massively but there is a little bit of mould just starting to appear, bless her

Gonna treat them all to a little TLC, Kelly is currently searing hot full of coals to burn off all the nasties prior to a brush and 1st use, got a couple of pork butts and some chicken practice planned for next week weather dependant

God bless the sun

I'm having a weekend of kit cleaning too. Emptied all the ash out of all the bbqs and that's the about half a black bag full!

Likewise, was going to get the Karcher out, but thought of all those built on aromas. Instead I got the weedburner out (el cheapo from Aldi & Lidl) and burnt off the two or three slight blooms which I think are acceptable bearing in mind what a wet autumn and winter we've had. All we have to do now is organise the BBQ shed. Sadly it's not as big as I'd like, like other things ............BANK BALANCE people, it's in your mind not my typing ;). I have to feel sorry for my little mincer (careful!! :D ) it's just bravely ground sorry we're in the UK minced it's way through 3Kg of chuck to make the first of the season's burgers (5oz). That left a chunky 2Kg of chuck for low-n-slow in a few weeks.

I've had mould in my Kamado before. Easily cleaned, but nowadays I keep a large container of dessicant gel in it when not in use. Haven't had problems since.

I hadn't thought of that - will give it a go. To be fair my small WSM gets used enough not to suffer from the problem but its big brother can sometimes go months between cooks.

I disagree for us NORMAL bbquers Mr Shea's (we're on close terms) shed would be a godsend. The sickening thing is the marquee we used for the IBQN judges comp is bigger than our garden  :( :( :( :( ;) :D
