I saw this Twitter earlier and thought it would be of interest to others on here.

Changing the display units from °C to °F

After opening your Thermapen’s battery compartment with a coin, flip the switch (number one) to the on position (away from the battery).

Changing the display resolution from .01° to 1°

Too often Thermapens don’t settle on a temperature. What is mistaken as a defective thermometer is actually a hyper sensitive probe that reads constantly changing temperatures to a tenth of a degree. However, if the changing tenths are driving you to drink, consider this customization.

To change to whole numbers, move the switch (number two) to the “on” position (away from the batteries). Those pesky tenths will be disabled and your Thermapen will appear to finally settle down – unlike that good-for-nothing uncle of yours.

Disable the auto-off feature

The factory is a big believer in preserving battery life. That means they’ve enabled your Thermapen with an auto-off feature that shuts off your Thermapen ten minutes after the probe has been extended. To turn it on again you have to close the probe and open it back up. When you’ve got one hand tending to the meat and the other free to grab your thermometer this can be a bit of an inconvenience. Here’s how to change that:

To disable the auto-off feature, move the switch (number three) to the “on” position (away from the batteries). This will ensure that you no longer have to deal with any premature shut-offs. Don’t fret about wasting too much juice in the battery. Thermapens are designed to give you fast and accurate temperatures for up to 1,500 hours.
