Pro q as a tandoor?

Postby esselle » 15 Sep 2011, 09:58

Is it possible? Has anyone done it or tried it?
I have read that a tandoor has to cook at 400 degrees C, why? :?:
Cheers

I've tried it on my WSM after watching Heston Blumenthals perfection programe. It worked but not as well as his brick lined hole in the ground, I just couldn't get the temp high enough, removed the bowl and everything, I will try again sometime as I don't like to be beat but I suspect it would be better suited to an egg. You need the very high temps to sear the meat and cook it quickly before it dries out, it would make an excellent party piece for entertaining though if you can crack it!!

Wouldnt try it to be honest, you would trash the smoker finish at those temps. The trick to the tandor is that the heat is absorbed and thrown back at the food and the bullets just arent able to do that.

It may be able to hit those temps if you cooked close enough to the coals.
