Further to my comment on the pellets. I am concerned I may be doing the Lil Devils pellets a disservice, so don't go on my opinion alone.

As mentioned yesterday, I could only detect a very slight smokiness. Have just had a taste of the pork, which has been sat in the fridge overnight, and it is gorgeous.

Now some of that will be due to the sauce, but I am definitely tasting more smoke than I did yesterday.

Puzzled.

At the risk of being a bore on this... :lol:

Have just reheated some of the pork for a lunchtime sandwich, and the smokiness is definitely there, in fact quite noticeable.

Am not sure if it was that my exposure to the actual smoke yesterday dulled my tastebuds, or whether sitting in the fridge has developed the flavour.

Does anybody else experience this - where food is disappointing at the time you cook it, but a day later is much, much better?

I wouldn't say disapointing Mate ;) :oops: but it's definitely better the next day - so much so that I plan on doing this years Q for my Motley Mates mostly the day before with just things like ribs, chicken and burgers on the day.

I did the rounds of three neighbours tonight, with a pot of pulled pork for each. Two were neighbours who had come round to look at the Traeger in the past, and expressed an interest. One was for my next door neighbour, having seen her come into the garden yesterday with some washing, take a look at my smoker, and carried it back indoors again.

However, she is perfectly happy, and amused that I was at all worried. And quite appreciative of the pork.

Nice PR Chris!

I have had a few neighbours that have thought the smoke is a problem for washing. I now leave ours out whilst we smoke deliberately. I haven't noticed anything that is noticeable on the clothes, now the neighbours don't worry about it at all.

I think it's always a concern but like you say once they taste it, it becomes a none issue. We have had all of our neighbours round now when we have done full competition practices and now they ask us when we're practicing. It's good to keep em on side though.

10 years ago I received a restraining order from Brighton Council banning me from having BBQs because of one neighbour......the following November we held a massive bonfire party with NO BBQ but we did burn an effigy of him! :D

Well aside from being neighbourly, I am trying to lose some weight, which doesn't really fit in with the amount of food an experimenting BBQ enthusiast can produce (unless one believes in the Atkins diet, which I don't). I know I can always freeze BBQ, which I intend to start doing, but it is also good to get some impartial feedback.

I've also been doing the same with some of my breadmaking. It's almost as easy to make 3 loaves as 1 (expecially once I realised that the Traeger is great as a bread oven), so I have been handing out loaves in exchange for opinion.

The nice thing is that it is now coming full circle. One of my neighbours came round later with a whopping bag of cherries from his tree. I now know what to do with the glut of pears my own tree is going to produce.

Out of curiosity Chris and especially as you use a pellet pooper... Have you had a go at bread on the Traeger?

That's ridiculous, I would of carried on, never know they may have given you an ASBO too :lol:

I have definetly noticed a much more distinctive smoke flavour after a night in the fridge. My first ever rib cook on my Dan Boone left me some what disappointed with the amount of smoke. The next day I warmed a few up for lunch and they were so much better and even better the day after that. I have seen many comments from others with the same expierience on pelletheads.

Many other users also have commented about the lack of smokey flavour with the Lil Devil pellets and are using them mainly for high temp grilling as you are. I hope I can find a reasonable price pellet here in Germany as Green Mountain is now approved in the EU and will be shipping me a 220 unit here soon.
