Another family corrupted

Postby Chris__M » 16 Aug 2012, 09:29

Back in May, I drove down to Steve's and picked up this smoker, on behalf of some friends of mine. Tim is the guy who landscaped my garden, and built my BBQ shack. While working here, he had plenty of chance to try the food off my Lil Tex, and when I noticed there was one going on eBay, he was tempted. When I realised it was Steve selling it, it made me even more confident it was a good buy, and I talked Tim into it.

Anyway, I popped in on them last week (they live about an hour north of me), and they are getting good use out of it. We are planning to combine our pellet purchases, which should get us better prices. The only downside is that it seems to have spoiled them - we were going to an event that included "BBQ" and I heard the mournful comment "but it won't be *real* BBQ, will it, just sausages and burgers".

Tim is actually a quite useful fabricator - I also gave him the stainless steel fittings I'd bought to mount an extra shelf in mine (before going the easy path and buying a GMG removable half-shelf). His current project is turning an old fridge into a cold smoking unit (either using the ProQ cold smoker, or output from the Lil Tex), but I don't think it will be long before he turns his attention to the Lil Tex itself. If he comes up with anything good, I'll let you all know.

No work done on it yet, they are using it pretty much as received, but with good results. They are extremely pleased with it.

Well done! I've corrupted a fair few also. We used to go to the mother in-laws first Sunday of every month for Sunday dinner. I started cooking the meat on the GMG DB. Usually a brisket smoked for 10 hours or so.........we started with around 5 of us coming to Sunday dinner and now there are approx 20 people that attend! 3 or so of them 'don't eat red meat'........well.....they can't get enough of the brisket!

Another love of mine is proper, quality coffee and I've converted quite a few non coffee drinkers too!

Probably because when the brisket is cooked it's a delicious unctious brown colour so is no longer "red meat". Well done, 1 up (or 20 up) on the MiL :D
