Can anyone recommend anything? I want to add a couple of holes to my kettle and for when i build my UDS. I'm struggling to find silicone grommets but though i could maybe use some threaded brass nipples.

Has anyone done something like this?

do you mean electrical pannel grommets? if so i have a load of 20mm and 16mm i could send you? let me know if its any good?

I think he means heat-resistant silicone ones. Basically you want to drill a hole in your smoker and pass wires for sensors etc through it, but you want to put a rubber/silicone grommet to protect the wires through. They would need to be able to handle the heat. I did find some, but only in the US and too much hassle to bring over, so instead I got brass compression fittings from here:

I rang grommets.co.uk and they have some but the minimum order would be £30 for 50.

tomm156: thanks for the offer, i don't suppose they're silicone are they? I think the nitrile ones are only ok to 120C.

Maybe I'll look at brass options, just thought the silicone would be better in the kettle bowl.

Thanks for the link, what size did you go for?

Never mind, just found some on etsy that have the same 5/16" hole that the official maverick ones have. Not a use that I would have thought of, check them out. They're from the US but £10 including delivery for 25.
