Steak sides

Pondered on tagging this question to the steak cooking thread but don't want to jack it.
I've got some rib eye steaks for tonight's dinner, was going to make some Philly cheesesteaks but in light of the recent thread discussing reverse searing, I'm going to give that a try.
Question is - what do you like to serve your steak with? Salty fries and a grilled tomato are all well and good, but I'm wondering what other, more interesting suggestions the forumers have?

You know Si, I was walking home just now thinking hmmm, mac n cheese or fries..... good call - both!
Not a great fan of watercress, but fancy a hot veg side anyway, any suggestions? Pondered garlic mushrooms as they are the wife's favourite, and would probably complement the beef nicely.

And how about this, picked up an old French cookery book at the charity shop while I was out. There is a recipe in there for what is essentially mac n cheese with chopped ham in it, with egg and egg yolk stirred into the sauce once cooled, baked in a mould then turned out and sliced like a cake.
I think this coincidence is destiny.

I like something starchy and something to cut through it all like asparagus or spinach (both with garlic butter).

Asparagus might be nice. And also goes well with garlic mushrooms! Oh man I'm so hungry and it's only 11:20....

+1 for garlic mushrooms - Like a corn on the cob and a nice, buttery jacket spud too!

As it happened, I fully intended to get some mushrooms but got waylaid, ended up with lots of cheese and some corn, so did timbales au jambon aka mac n cheese wi some eggs n ham, and burnt the buggery outside of the steaks over a screaming hot grill of charcoal and hickory, Pure and simple, it was a taste of heaven, and I didnt give a ^&£^$"£ about the sides.....
Actually, the singed, hickory flavour corn was a perfect side. Thanks for all the suggestions folks!
