Cleaning the Excel

So I did quite a lot of BBQ last year, and since then my Excel has sat in the garage.

Before I get started again this year, I wanna clean it out. Any tips on where to start/ what to use?

Thanks,

Chris

The first thing I'd do is a good hot burn, empty waterpan, full chimney of coal, get it nice and hot to burn off any little nasties that have decided to camp out in there. I've had cookers get mouldy over winter and a good burn sorts them out.

If the grills need special attention there are several options. My favourite is to put the grills in a double layer of black bags and pour in a bottle of household ammonia, leave overnight then rinse clean. Oven pride is very similar and convenient if a touch more expensive. But you could also clean them with good old fairy liquid or pressure wash them , just depends on how much effort you want to expend.

Even though most of my cookers get used and cleaned year round, I have an annual ritual of deep clean and clean burn. Kind of like burning away the winter :D
