A took a trip to Chippenham yesterday and popped in Morrisons while I was there, picked up a nice looking brisket for £2.70.
The weather is sunny / raining / sunny / raining etc but what the heck, i feel like bbq'ing
Wish me luck!

Thinking of trying my first brisket at the weekend.
What weight did you get, are you applying a rub and how long will you be smoking it?

Best of luck.

All this talk of Brisket is making me think about getting one.

After my massive failure with the Brisket at MIM i think i need more practice, or that's what i'll tell the mrs

Its 700g and kinda came in two pieces, one of which looked more like a roasting joint. I'm no butcher but I did my best to butterfly it so at least now both chunks are about the same size / shape.

I've no idea how long I'm going to cook it for but I have used a 'usual suspects' rub..
Paprika
Garlic Powder
Celery salt
Pepper
Onion Powder
Cayenne powder
Cumin powder

I hate to be a damp squib but I would recommend that you find a pot roast recipe for your brisket and cook it that way.The brisket you need for BBQ will not be found in any of the major supermarket chains. in fact you need to be looking at something that weighs more like 7kg than 700gms. I will try to put together a post soon on how to buy and select briskets and the various ways of trimming and smoking them.I hope this hasn't put you off too much just that I would rather you got the best out of the piece of meat that you've already bought.

Thanks Joker, for a little over £2 though, I'm willing to learn the hard way :)

The end results were a little dry in places but overall i'm happy, not at all chewy and full of flavour, maybe i just left it on a bit too long.

You can see what a slim cut it was..

A nice smoke ring..

Jacket Spud + Salad + Blue Cheese dressing / Mushroom + home grown leeks & Garlic / Brisket + Home made sauce.. Lovely!

I take on everything you say Joker, wish i could get hold of those decent sized briskets but overall i'm happy with the results :)
