I'm guessing they don't cut the belly off of the ribs as closely.

Went to my local Bookers tonight hunting for the German ribs. They also had three different types of spare ribs. Standard, semi meaty and extra meaty. Ranging from 19.99 to 29.99 for 10kg. Boxes decorated with Chinese dragons. Checked out the extra meaty and they were just what they said.

Bought some of the standard to start with. Probably about 8 or 9 racks.

The standard ones are the 'German' around £25 a box.

The dragon box ones have more of the belly on them, it is quite a thick layer that actually needs trimming back, they do allow for better presentation.

I've just got some ribs from Makro, labelled "meaty ribs" and baby back ribs.. they actually look pretty good. About £10 a rack though. Will post some pictures when I get round to cooking them

Never had the extra meaty ribs, only the baby back/loin ribs. Are they individualy wrapped like the baby backs?

The dragon box ones are individually wrapped

I thought they were the cheaper cut of meat

Just picked up a box of the dragon box ribs but went for the "semi meaty" ones they were £26.99 I will check how many are in there later but they had a nice level if meat on them. Better than the really meaty ones given the extra cost and subsequent trimming.

So did I! Turning out to be a very expensive hobby this!
