Weber Chimney Starter

Feel free to ask any questions, one of the experts will certainly respond, don't be afraid to ask anything, we were all beginners at some point.

Glad I'm not the only one. I'll try the wire wool and report back on the result. #ICanDoScienceMe! :D

Just a thought, fire needs Oxygen, Fuel and Ignition Temperature, the only real variable would be the ignition temp, could this mystery be down to the colder temps we've had lately? I guess some of you guys BBQ during the winter (just read a post about it) is it harder to get it lit in winter? Have to admit though I'm a firm believer in - the cleaner it is the better it works, pity I'm a believer and not a practicer.

Hmmm.

Okay, this is one for the scientists.

What chemical reaction might be working here? The deposit, is it carbon? Are we heating that and creating carbon dioxide which lowers the concentration of oxygen in the air?

I suspect that it is more to do with the build up of rust on the interior of the chimney starter not conducting heat as efficiently. My scrubbed out Chimney Starters seem to be performing better than they did before being scrubbed out
