BBQ's are not illegal and all her claims are bull. If it was me I would have a BBQ on the go 24hours a day. I would make a point of cutting down all the trees in my garden and burning them in the BBQ. I would then plant more trees, continue with my BBQ burning spree (using other sources of fuel) and when the trees are fully grown again, cut them down and burn them in the BBQ. Keep going infinitum.
That's more of a long term commitment (and costly). In reality I would just tell her to get fecked and shut the door.
My Neighbour 2 doors down burns his garden waste every 2 weeks. He always does it on an overcast evening and no one complains. When we were having a garden party (and BBQ) and few months back, I called round and asked that he not burn it on that night and he was more than happy to accomodate so he burned it a couple of nights later (which was his plan anyway). No issues. Your neighbour obviously fancies you and this is her only way to talk to you. You know what to do

Doesn't most of the hype around carcinogens being produced by grilling/barbecuing food revolve around actually consuming the 'charred' meat?
If you think she is serious would ask for specific details of exactly what carcinogens she has apparently inhaled. I highly doubt the smoke produced from 5 bbqs would be able to cause coughing up blood.

Yes it is that horrible thing we love called the bark. However, the carcingen debate has been here before and unless you are eating it 24/7 and by that I mean EVERY meal, and snacks every day of your life then as a non mediacal professional I doubt it would do you much harm. As oppossed to the chemically smoked bacon etc that she no doubt eats!!!
I hate problems with neighbours, whilst none of ours actively bbq no-one has complained, oh except our next door neighbour who is a vegetarian who mentioned her husbands does tend to salivate when the meaty goodness smell drifts across the fence. And yes they thoroughly enjoyed the last bbq they attended.
I still think checking with her partner and the other neighbours to check their views on the subjetc is probably the way forwards.
You have our sympathy, and yes I'm aware of where sympathy can be found!

Hi
Ditto Keith!!!
IMHO, pre empt her!!! Contact Environmental Health yourself and askfor advice as you are very concerned by her allegations.
Then contact your local mental health team just in case!
Remove all Rabbits from hutches, unless you want them to be boiled instead of smoked(see my recipe)
Contact local Police and seek a restraining order.
Or just tell her she is talking BULLSHIT and to get help and leave you alone to help the Polar Ice Cap get bigger along with the rest of us!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rant Over
Si

Have you spoken to her husband at all?
She may actually need some help.

I'm going to offer to raise the boundary between the two houses at my cost. I'll make it whatever height she wants (although it'll block some of her sunlight)...it's up to her.
I'm also building a platform at the opposite side to her to alleviate the situation.
I haven't spoken to her husband (he works odd shifts and haven't seen him around).
Thanks all for the advice.

I believe there is a 6ft (or perhaps 2m) limit to garden fences/walls - so be careful - speak to local planning officer first. From the sounds of it though, you might be wasting your money

Yeah. Still, if she doesn't object (or gives permission) should be no problem. Or I'll put mesh on top to "catch" the ash/embers.

Get it in writing - but still, from the sounds of it, you will still have problems.

What do the other neighbours have to say?
