Put a barrier (butter was suggested) on the stacker where the door fits, put a hefty silicon bead around the doors then close them and make sure there are no gaps. Get a troubled night's sleep just in case, check they open freely and trim any ugly excess off then Robert becomes a close relative .

Might be trying that as after 5-6 cooks im still getting a lot of smoke up the sides of my PRO Q Frontier although temps have been quite steady apart from one night.

I understand what you mean about no breeze, I had my smoker in a shaded corner and the temps hit over 300 and wouldn't drop, I closed all vents apart from the top one and got it down to 280, in the end I took the lid off until down to 230 then lid on and food on, held quite well after that.

Back to black silicon, I carefully cleaned round the edges of the doors, up to the formed "rib", and did the surrounding stacker edge too. Wiped round with meths to try and get a good bond to the door, then applied a bead of silicon to the doors using the rib as a guide, let it skin over (20 mins) shut the doors, left it for a few hours then carefully opened up. I was expecting some of the bead to attach to the stacker, but it didn't, gave it 24hours then fired up the beast, it worked, no door leakage, doors work as they should!
I am sure there is a self adhesive seal (foam or something like) that is a boiler or fire seal out there that could be used on the doors and the stacker joint, costing pennies per yard and not the ridiculous prices on Ebay

Is there a noticeable difference in stability and fuel consumption with silicone sealed doors? It's something I've been considering doing

YD in order yes it holds temps better, as to fuel there is some leftover, but I always shut my bbqs & smokers down and really can't tell whether there are 3 or 4 lumps more than before. Based on metered consistent airflow the answer would be yes there should be less fuel used.

just found some everbuild heat resistant silicone on amazon.co.uk £5 something but was other sellers at £3 something.

I will be trying it, i'm a tiler so use silicone on every job and I absolutely hate the stuff but I can do around a bath, sink, window or corners of the walls perfect, I bet my smoker will have it everywhere

I just picked up some of the same stuff. I'm wondering if it might not also be worthwhile trying to seal around the stacker rims too
