Re: Hot Dawg
Popped in to Selfridges today and no luck. The guys on the meat counter haven't seen any so they must have stopped stocking them a while back.

This made me look again, when I popped into Tescos today.
The supermarket frank(en)furters I had examined before, I had disdained because they contained more chicken than pork, and clearly stated they contained mechanically reclaimed meat. The Herta franks I saw looked more or less identical in appearance and packaging, so I wrote those off as the same.
However, examining them today, the ingredients say they ar 74% pork, and no other meat. No mention of MRM, but I would thought that unlikely if they are claiming all the meat is pork. So I bought some to try.
Then I saw that Tescos are also selling "German Bratwurst" - 84% pork. That has got to be worth a go, so I bought a couple of packs. According to the label, they are already cooked, but I am sure I can work a little magic on them, just the same.

I just couldn't have been looking hard enough!

Got some really nice all beef Chicago style foot long dogs at Costco, had one boiled in store which was nice but put a pack on the smoker later and they were superb. No pictures sorry we eat them too fast.

I'm sorry to report that these had me going "meh". Not nasty, but nothing that would make me want to repeat the purchase. I have another packet in the fridge, so I am going to cut those up and reheat them in a sauce, to see if I can get some kind of flavour into them.
The Herta franks were ok, though. Not exactly what I was looking for (although I have yet to try the extra large ones), but quite pleasant.

If it's Ocado, there is a decent chance that a large Waitrose will also stock them. Worth taking a look.

Not long to be honest I popped them in to have as an apertiser whilst a beef roast and small pork shoulder where smoking, they where near the firebox and got a bit touched by flame but were still lovely. Chopped em up and served them with a homemade BBQ sauce. Probably 30 minutes at 250f.
