Using different woods for smoking

Postby mr meddle » 25 Oct 2015, 00:17

Hi all,
When it comes to using different woods for smoking is it ok to use kiln dried wood (beech, maple, oak, maybe cherry every now and then) put on top of briquettes just for that bit more smokey taste? Should I soak it in water or just chuck it on? The reason I ask is I can get these offcuts from work, would I be wasting my time? Cheers all

Lucky man having a ready source of hardwood!! You can use them dry, the bit about soaking them isn't really required, sometimes needed for chips as they are considerably smaller but even that's up for debate.

Soaking is just a waste of time. It also just evaporates off before it burns, so what was the point?
