http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Splash-Proof- ... 43bdeea0b0 < considerably more off here! This offer pops up now and again, I bought one and I've no idea why it wasn't being sold as new

That's the source for most of our thermopens, but they insist they are recon & not new. I've compared the new one I have with the alleged "recon" one and (other than the colour) can find no difference at all.

From their site, I think this sums it up:

Thermapens are rarely returned, however we have a small number here in our factory in Worthing, West Sussex, that for various reasons we will not sell as new units. Some have slightly damaged packaging, there are a few ex sales demos, a tiny number are returns and an even smaller number are "refurbished" to like-new condition after very short term use.
All units are supplied in like-new condition and include the full warranty. All include a calibration certificate. In nearly all cases you won't be able to differentiate these from our new stock. We only have a limited number, in limited colours, available, and when they are gone, the offer expires.

Got my white one for £30 plus £2.40 postage from amazon. Wasn't my first colour preference, but couldn't justify £15 more for a different colour.

At least it matches my maverick :)
