Where what in Buenos Aires

Postby Davy » 04 Feb 2013, 13:25

Hi all I've not been around for a while. I have 3 days in BA and would like to know if anybody has any particular restaurant recommendations for good q. Also are there any gadgets or ingredients I should look out for.

By the way, yesterday I seen the most amazing sight. These guys were doing q on the side of a very busy road, literally they had a fire on the road surface with all the traffic wizzing by. I tried to take a pic but they got angry and they looked very scary. I will look for more photo opportunties today.

Hi,
Was there a few years ago and had the bestest beef ever in a beef eating career that spans the globe. Resteraunt was called Las lilas I think it is down by the waterfront and seems known to most. Wouldnt say it was classic bbq but there is a heady wood smoke smell and the beef is out of this world.

Opened with veal empanadas and followed with a sirloin strip whic has a man weeping over the steaky goodness of it all.

Bottle of Malbec, heaven,

Bless you for reminding me of a great afternoon, hope you get there
Cheers

Tiny thanks for your recommendation but Ive seen it too late. Im now back in blighty and the cold is killing me. Overall I enjoyed BA but I have had better beef in the States that was my first thought as I took my first few mouthfulls, however the people and the vibe more than made up for it. BA is a big bustling city and its hard to get off the tourist trail. The very same goes for Montevideo where myself and a Spanish speaking colleague went for lunch in a very basic restaurant with 2 beers each that came to over a $100  . The steak was mediocre at best.

My favourite place was Peru where they have the most amazing sandwiches stacked high with layer after layer of meat.

Buenos Aires and what a pit !

BA again, not the cleanest looking but I was interested to see the most humble of set ups.

Sadly thats all the pics. I intended to buy a decent DSLR while I was there and was horrified to see that they were almost 3 times more expensive than Europe, so I had to make do with my camera phone which is very poor.

Sorry you didn't have more fun. You're first picture reminds me of a MvF episode in Peurto Rico.
Re South America if we ever get to go I'll be following the Hairy Bikers advice re Argentina, though I'd have to look it up. Apparantly the AVERAGE RED MEAT INTAKE per capita is 24oz PER DAY!!!! according to the HBs
