Hi All Newbie
Hi All
Ive just started looking into proper BBQ food and have 2 racks of ribs in my oven as i type this with my first dry rub.
Been looking into smokers,BBQ'S,BBQ sauces,rubs and recipes and realised im a total beginner so any odd questions or replies i apologise now.
I absolutely love my meat and will be looking into getting some new equipment but until the summer is back then i'll be doing lots of experimenting with dry rubs and sauces.
Any info is always greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
If you can get a Q now, it will probably pay off. Lots of garden centres and web sites are doing deals just to get rid of their stock and you can save more than half price.

Thank you for the welcome.
Went to a few garden centres today to have a look and not one smoker though.
My first dry rub was very nice in taste but i now know im a real beginner, the ribs were really nice but not melt in your mouth,came off bone nicely but the crust was on the verge of burnt or to crispy.
I know i probably need to reduce heat but this was in an oven so it was really to just try the rub.
I do have a gas bbq but is that really what i want to start on, ive been doing a lot of reading online and getting the right coals,wood, opening of vents,meat thermometers,bbq thermometers and timing all seem like a science. quite daunting to start but i dont mind experimenting and asking questions.
You look at a bbq and think it cant be that hard but to do it right is a science and something that has to be respected so hats off to all of you that have mastered it.

Hi Slatts & welcome, what style of gas BBQ do you have, how many burners? I ask as if you can turn off a burner and keep control of the others there may be scope for low n slow etc.

She does look after me and probably doesnt want to be poisoned
The budget is probably £200 max for a bbq if I'll be getting thermometers etc.
We do like a bbq and the gas one will still be used alongside the new charcoal one.

Certainly keep the gas bbq they have their uses for quick and easy cooking. If it has a lid then try with making smoking packets of foil on one burner and but the meat on the other side with the burner off. Raise the lid on that side a bit (a block of wood maybe) to encourage a draught. Don't know if it would work but mayne worth a try.

get a weber rocky mountain smoker a weber chimmney and some lump charcoal and youre in business

He did state a limited budget, but a good selection all the same (or a ProQ of course)
