Florida is quite a big place, are you heading to the pan handle or going to see Mickey on the peninsula?

Try this for a start http://www.flbbq.org/joints.htm

I have eaten at Sonny's bbq a couple of times, they are kind of a chain type restaurant so quite a few around the state of Florida, I have had the "all you can eat" option off the menu which allowed me to pick more than one type of meat, so, nice to sample some of their other goodies!! All in all, not bad for what it is and good value for the money. There are a lot of one man band type places that you can just happen on as you drive around and they are going to be good, just stop and have a smell, if it smells good, eat!

Daft as it might sound, I eat very little BBQ out, pig out on ribs and pork butts at home!!! Don't forget that Florida is very good on its seafood, if you are near St Augustine there is a place called Saltwater Cowboys that I would recommend.

I would recommend Charlies Steak house, http://www.talkofthetownrestaurants.com/ probably the best steak I have eaten out. Everything is cooked over an open pit at the front of the restaurant. Quite pricey but friendly and top notch food, definitely one for a treat.

Shame. In October (I think) Myron Mixon is opening his place in Miami. That would be top of my 'to go' list.

Just got back from a road trip to Plant City which is between Orlando and Tampa ( about 45 minutes from Orlando so I am told) We dined at Johnsons Barbeque in Plant City one evening, had the combination platter - pulled pork and brisket with bbq beans and steak fries ( how I suffer for you guys back in the UK!!!!) Very good meal in a clean and tidy diner, service above the average for over here so you don't mind leaving the gratuity. If you are passing or near by well worth dropping in.

Would have liked to have gone back another evening to try the ribs, but, time was against us - next time for sure!!
