Jamie Oliver Rumours to Open BBQ Restaurant Chain in England

There are plenty of rumors circulating at the moment about Jamie Oliver opening a new chain of BBQ restaurants in the United Kingdom, being aided by none other than BBQ Pitmaster, Adam Perry Lang from NYC.
To date, the U.K. based celebrity chef has opened 16 restaurants, including the well known as "Fifteen", which is named after the first cohort of fifteen young people, the restaurant is a commercial business, wholly owned by the Fifteen Foundation which is both a registered charity and social enterprise.

Having spent a great deal of time travelling the World, most recently the United States, where he was featured visiting various states in the USA in his TV series Jamie’s American Road Trip, Jamie has decided to team up with New York City BBQ Pitmaster, Adam Perry Lang.

It is a well known fact that Perry Lang is secretive about projects that he works on, but apparently he is actually moving to England for several years to develop the concept.

The dynamic culinary duo are making a bid to open a new chain of BBQ restaurants within the United Kingdom, the first of which will be a 200 seater venue in the heart of London.

Jamie's new BBQ menu will not only feature the American style BBQ that is the speciality at Lang’s Manhattan restaurant, Daisy May’s BBQ, but also Brazilian-style charcoal pit churrasco.

This new venture will be one of the few BBQ chains that operate in the United Kingdom, with its most notable competition being the Mongolian BBQ, a franchise which has been recognized by the Time Out "Eating Out Guide", The Times, and the London Evening Standard.

Just seen the press release on Jamie's web site

Fri 15 Jan 2010 @ 14:29

Jamie Oliver and celebrated New York chef Adam Perry Lang have chosen One New Change in the City of London as the venue for their latest restaurant. The business will be headed up by experienced restaurant operator, Kevin Bacon.

The new restaurant, as yet un-named and due to open in October 2010, will also have a retail outlet. The building enjoys stunning views of St Paul’s Cathedral and will benefit from an estimated seven million city workers and tourists visiting the area each year/week.

Commenting on the letting, David Atcherley Symes, Retail Manager for Land Securities London Portfolio, said: “This is absolutely fantastic news. Jamie and Adam’s fabulous new restaurant concept is exactly what we’re looking for at One New Change. The combination of what I know will be incredible food and our awesome location will mean visitors will have the most exquisite dining experience. This really sets the tone of what One New Change will offer and how exciting a place it will be.”

Kevin Bacon, Managing Director, International Restaurants for Jamie Oliver added: “Where else would we launch an innovative restaurant concept? The heart of London is the place to be and One New Change, as a new signature building set so close to St Paul’s, is just perfect. Introducing this brand new dining concept in such a prominent global position is something we are extremely excited about.”

Jamie Oliver has become a global household name over the last ten years with a series of best-selling books, top-rated TV series and successful restaurants, Fifteen and Jamie’s Italian.
Adam Perry Lang is an internationally recognised chef whose US restaurant, Daisy May’s BBQ USA in New York, has become the place to go for anyone who loves seriously great barbecue.

Visitors to One New Change will also be able to sample eight other restaurants and coffee shops, a vibrant retail offer and never-before-seen views of St Paul’s Cathedral from the public roof terrace. Over half of the 50 plus shops have been let or reserved, with confirmed lettings including Hobbs, Reiss, H&M, Marks & Spencer and Topshop.

The building is designed by internationally-renowned Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, and is on schedule for an Autumn 2010 opening and will lead the transformation of the City into a seven-day shopping and leisure destination.

Think it's going to be called Barbecoa.

Wonder if they'll be serving the whole cows head!

That may be interesting, as there is already a long-established restaurant and bar of that name in Liverpool.

Saw an article today in the evening standard http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23890945-jamie-olivers-opening-a-meat-shrine-for-caveman-diners.do. Apparently its opening on the 3rd November. The website is up now, but without much details at http://barbecoa.com/.

The two bits that I enjoyed in the article are the following, the restaurant has "wood-fired oven the size of a minibus, a Japanese-style Robata grill, an Argentinian burn pit, a Texas smoker and two Indian tandoors" AND

"The menu has 17 beef, pork, lamb and chicken main course options. Vegetarian options are restricted to starter salads and a bowl of olives."

So once all the fireflys have been we can go round and give the food a taste.
