Xmas Turkey

Postby Andy_M » 28 Nov 2011, 15:13

Hi All, I am looking for some advice, I am debating cooking a turkey on my 57cm Weber kettle this xmas. I need to feed around 14 people and biggest concern is getting the lid shut. Weber have indicated I can do a 30lbs bird.

Does anyone have any experience cooking a large bird?

Difficult question without having the bird in hand. We normally cook a 22 - 24lb turkey when we have the whole family round, your biggest problem is going to be distance of the coals to the turkey, i have one in the freezer, will get it out tomorrow and see how it sits on the grill.

Thank you that's very kind. Have worried about distance between bird and coals planning to brine the bird, tie wings and legs up. I have also seen tin foil used to protect these areas.

Always a good idea to foil wingtips but don't forget to remove the foil before the end of cooking to ensure an "even tan" ;)
