Hello to everyone from a long time novice in the midlands.

Hi guys and girls,

I am looking to get deeper into the low and slow 'bbq' scene, I have a cactus Jack offset firebox style smoker which I have used with some success over the last year but I really am interested in stepping it up a notch.

It's great to find a place where so many like minded souls have gathered, shame you don't all live nearby!!

Anyway, I look forward to increasing my pit skills by lurking around here in the future.

Good times...

Christian... :D

Welcome,

Cactus jacks are great bits of kit from what I hear, have you made any mod's to it yet?

Also what have you been cooking or what are you wanting to cook?

Cheers,

Ed

Hi Christian,
Welcome to the forum. Whereabouts in the midlands - I'm in Leicester. I also have a cactus jack, they are a fantastic smoker. Joker smoker, who also posts on here, has a couple too and is my 'go to guy' for cj advice as he's had his quite some time.
Cheers

Scott.

Welcome. Don't put your skills down, if you've been doing this for a long time I doubt you're a novice.

I heard John's were carbon dated back to the iron age.

Hi Scott, I'm from Burntwood, nr Cannock and Lichfield. I inherited my cactus Jack from my dad who wasn't really using it much, I have probably used it 2 or 3 times a year for the last few years. But never really fully understood the True BBQ ethos. hopefully getting there now especially thanks to the Internet and forums like this.

How much fuel do you put in your firebox and what do you use/recommend. The last time I used mine it was with coconut briquettes and hickory logs.
