WSM Gasket

Only done a couple of cooks on my new WSM 57cm. Noticed that it wasn't shutting down when all the vents were closed and would carry on burning for hours afterwards, also leaking quite a lot of smoke from the lid - drum join.

The web wisdom suggested that it would need 12 or so cooks to gum up and prevent leaks, but being impatient I decided to try and source some gasket material in the UK.

Found & ordered some of this stuff: http://shop.vitcas.com/stove-thermal-ta ... -377-p.asp

Just fitted it to the top of the drum & will be interested to see if it reduces the smoke leaking from the join. Really easy to fit after a quick clean with Cillit Bang. Will give it a try without doing the door, but have enough to do the door if required.

Can't seem to upload pictures...

Try removing the barrel section and just placing the lid on the base then close the vents down to kill the fire. I had the same problem with my Pro Q but that worked for me

My first opportunity to do a proper low & slow cook of a pork shoulder. And also the first time I've used the WSM since fitting the lid gasket.

The cook has been under way for a couple of hours now & zero smoke escaping around the lid join, whereas before fitting the gasket smoke was pouring out of the gaps.

So far, very impressed, the temp is stable at 252f, can't wait to try the end result this evening.
